Jay Gurney of Yankton Nurseries discovered that a Victoria Regina agave that had been out of the way in a greenhouse suddenly produced a 4 inch or so diameter stalk. His agave is about 35 years old. Succulent leaves produce the energy for a spectacular bloom that lasts months.
