Garden Bloggers Bloom Day January 15th

Welcome to Garden Bloggers Bloom Day for January 15th. Here at Plant Exchange on the Northern Plains, we are having the last warm January day before a week of predicted below freezing temperatures and chances for snow. Indoors, a sunny day adds welcome light and solar warmth.

We’ll see blooms only indoors for the next 3-4 months. African violets have several blooms a year and are require little care once established.

A favorite begonia, enjoyed for foliage, has a small flower. Curiously, another cutting of the same begonia in another room also has a flower.

Poinsettias outlast the holidays. Here we keep the cheery red through Valentine’s Day, when days are longer.

  1. Beautiful poinsettia! I never can keep them alive past the holidays, though I have one I inherited from my mother-in-law that is still alive. Her ‘green thumb’ is still at work 6 years after her death!
    Lovely African violets, too
