August 10th, 10:00am-12:00pm: Sidewalk Seminar on Native Plantings in Boulevard (2301 S 3rd Ave ((31st St & 3rd Ave)), Sioux Falls, SD 57105
Sidewalk Seminar and Garden Tour
Hosted by Boyd Mcpeek, Strong Towns Member
“Interest in native plants has increased recently because of publicity surrounding the plight of Monarch butterflies and native pollinators such as bees. Native plants provide habitat for native pollinators as well as providing other benefits to the environment. I have been converting my yard and boulevard to native plants. I would like to share what I have learned in three decades of alternative gardening with anyone who is interested. I will hold a Sidewalk Seminar and garden tour on Saturday, August 10 at my house on 31st St and 3rd Ave (2301 S 3rd Ave). Specifically, I would like to talk about
– Why native plants – why in the boulevard
– Why the typical turf grass lawn is bad for the environment (and us)
– How to implement basic permaculture concepts.
We will tour the garden and I will answer as many questions as I can. Bring a water bottle and a lawn chair if you want.”
